Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default 1897 Winchester 12 ga

Came across a great piece. Never reblued or refinished. Still cycles with honest wear/patina. What would be a decent ballpark figure?? made in 1900

Damn, my manager was going to sell me one and he backed out. It was his dad's gun.

Great old shotguns, the 97. I've had several in the past.
Always liked the "trigger hold & pump option" they had.

The last one I sold around mid 80s for $200.
Have no Idea what they're worth these days.

Steve yah really have to research it well as I see them from $200 to $2,000? I paid $225 for mine a military with heat shield a fixed barrel, notches carved from manufacture 1913. Paid $125 for a bayo for it.
I see them in the NRA magazine and they say their Mod. 97 is worth big bucks? Really gave up doing research on the dang things and just put mine in the closet.
If the action is good and you like the weapon hell under $400 or so then grab it.
Remember now they shoot "2 1/2 in shells." Don't use 2 3/4.

The prices on real, unf#cked with 97's are through the roof these days. I've seen them at gun shows & on Gunbroker going for upwards of a grand these days. 300-400 bucks? Ancient history.

I paid $600 for a similar one but overpaid as I wanted it. Remember that the old 2-3/4 chamber (as marked on the bbl)was based on a roll type shell so if you want to use modern plastic hulls you should have the chamber forcing cone lengthened. Otherwise the kick will knock you over for no good reason and you might just do damage to your gun. I bought a forcing cone reamer and did the job myself, it cut the recoil in half. If you are unsure, take the gun to a gunsmith and have him put a chamber gauge in to see if you are good to go

Yup I found out the hard way Bull. Fired 2 3/4 out of it and they went bang but the gun was not real happy. I got on some shotgun sites and started research on the mod. 97 and kind of gave up.
Does it have this loop, this screw, this and that? Good bye.
My bud owns the local Ace hardware in town and he has 3 or 4 of the mod. 97s. He has one they made "limited" and someone put chokes to it. Long barrel and super well made.
He is banned from local turkey shoots he wins everyone he enters with it.

Too bad I had to give my uncle my Great-grandpa's 1897 riot gun. I'm sure he just turned around and sold it.

I wouldn't have given it to him, except for my mom asking me nicely.

Other than the US marked or factory Riot guns all of them I've sen in the last few years ranged from $200-600.

For the one you describe DirtySteve would be $600 and up.

I have one. They are fast shooters. Just hold the trigger back and keep pumping.

I'd like to get a take down model. They are harder to find.
