ATI STG44
CDNN has had them on sale for two weeks now. $330 with crate, $300 without. I just got one. Haven't shot it yet, but I like the feel, fit and finish, and overall everything. It's nearly all metal construction, to include the mags. From a quality standpoint I'm very impressed.
I wasn't overly impressed with the crate. One knot hole with the knot missing and not great workmanship considering they are supposed to be Amish made. Still, not bad seeing how I couldn't build one for $30 if you factor in the time spent. Mags are not cheap, running around $29 each roughly, but low and behold I found a place having a sale on them for $19.99 each with reasonable shipping. Anyway, looking forward to shooting it when I get the time. Should be a fun plinker.

Awesome RetVet.......
I just bought one of them myself........i like it ..BUT.... The design of these has one or 2 serious flaws that may or may not be fixable. 1. the entire barrel assembly is lose inside the receiver........if you place your finger over the muzzle and pull up and down you will be able to spot this movement......I guess im going to take the gun apart and glass bed the barrel trunnion into the receiver somehow with J-B weld.? 2. My gun and many others shoots too low ......the fix for this seems to be removing the rear sight base and adding a spacer to lift it up approx. 1/8" Anyway im going to try and make these fixes and maybe ill start a thread on it....i like the gun...it just has some rather serious flaws. I used to have a MP-44 parts set and i traded it off.....I got rid of it because even if i were to somehow restore it the ammo for it was hard to get...really wish i held on to it.......DUMBASS!

Thanks. I'll have to look the barrel issue over. Bedding should do the job though.

Thanks for that.....im going to get some of those
This GSG STG-44 is a extremely detailed replica of the original......i have handled several originals as well as my kit with the demilled receiver and if not for the magazine which is plastic and the fact that the cocking slot is much shorter than the original it is a dead ringer......its a heavy bastard as well...almost as heavy as the original. I have shot it in the desert , i put a few hundred rounds of Walmart federal bulk through it last week ..it seems to be very reliable but it definitely shoots low at 40-75 yards even with the rear sight adjustment cranked all the way forward..Despite the fact that it shoots 5" low for me the sights are VERY GOOD as in precise...the front sight is a sharp point similar to a chevron and the rear similar to an AK.....I have an emotional fondness for this gun simply because of the history behind it so even though it is going to require some tweaking out of the box...its ok with me..Once i get the barrel wobble and rear sight problems fixed im going to put an original set of MP-44 black bakelight grips on it that i have just to "pimp" it out..your never too old to be a kid with a new toy. |

I was thinking about different grips and a replacement butt stock as well. The grips look simple enough to fabricate and I have a lot of nice hardwoods to work with. Ditto for the butt stock. That plain stained wood is just too plain for me.
I also plan on replacing some of the screws, specifically every last Philips head screw. Call me picky, but a Philips head screw doesn't belong on ANY firearm. |

IIRC my .22 MP5 clone was built buy ATI before H&K sued them. Most peeps who took them apart later regretted it.

I've handled them before but haven't shot one yet. I'd be curious to know how they shoot. What I would really love to see is the new H&M STG-N once it finally gets released. That one isn't an exact replica, but it is supposed to be available in 5.56, 7.62x39, .300 Blackout, and in the original 8mm kurtz caliber (and swapable between them). I've seen pictures of the prototypes and they look pretty good to me.
