I quit Mozilla when it kept getting bogged down with ads. At that point I switched to Chrome.

I'm still running Firefox without any perceivable problems.

I haven't had any problems with Firefox. On the other hand, Microsoft programs have issues that Firefox won't cure. ...endless updates and patches to fix the patches, etc., etc, et fucking cetera!

Are you sure that wasn’t a result of surfing Pornhub too much?

I did, and it slowed my computer down bad enough that I finally did a system recovery and dropped back to the earlier version (which runs fine now) and I just keep clicking the "Not now" button when the download prompt keeps popping up OVER AND OVER.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the more some new software sucks; the harder they try to push it down your throat?

I've run Firefox for 10-15 years and have never seen an ad. If you are talking about all of the popup notifications from websites that say something like "Would you like notifications from this site?" they can be blocked. In Firefox address bar type: About: Config Then search for "dom.webnotifications.enabled" and change it from True to False.

If you have a problem with Firefox, delete it from your system, clean your computer with a known anti virus, anti ad things or whatever you have, then download it again only from the Firefox place. Other websites advertise and may even pop up on you saying to download an update, don't do it, go back to the Mozilla website. Go back to the Help menu and click on About Firefox, that will tell you if you are updated.

I don't know why it did it, but this past weekend Firefox did a delete and clean install of itself. When I got home from town, it was a brand new fresh install with none of my add-ons or skins. Very weird - especially since I had it working perfectly with no-script and u-block origin.

Another thing you can do is to turn off automatic updates. You can also turn off notifications of new browser updates.
But with all of the new computer and browser viruses and trojans infecting people's computers it's wise to install the newest updates. |

No, my wife uses it and she winds up on all kinds of odd sites -- which is why I have to keep No-script on. Otherwise all kinds of crap would get downloaded onto this machine.

Avast anti-virus is great front line protection. Adblock plus, Adblock latitude Ghostery, on and on are all good ad blockers and as a final defense, NoScript will kill a lot of malware and other scripts before they even get a start. Also, as archaic as it is and until something better comes along, Flashblock for killing annoying and often malware laden Flash ads and HTML5 ads. Brian
