manufactures used to send warranty or service directly to you even if a new # was issued. i'm thinking this all changed in around 93 or 94. i cant recall the particulars but s&w sent my 5903 straight to my shop on its new frame in 91. i think you have have to do some kind of paperwork to redeem a gun out of pawn these days too. correct me if im wrong, but i seem to remember a lot of buzz several years ago where the atf wanted sales forms completed when a person simply took thier gun to a smith for repairs. i dont think that went very far though. ive been out of that loop since 96 so please speak up if you know different

Brady changed a bunch of stuff. I had a shotgun on consignment, but it didn't sell and I got a buyer on my own. So, when I went to get it back from the gun store, I had to fill out a 4473 and do a NICs check to get my own gun back.
If any of our FFL holder members see this, maybe they can expand on it. I have not encountered having to go through NICs to get anything back from a gunsmith, yet.

Warranty Service
I prefer to repair my guns myself. My experiences with Taurus have been nothing but pleasurable. There are many brand junkies out there (Many on Firing Line Forums) who know nothing about Taurus firearms. All they know is their brand of choice is the best and Taurus sucks. I called Taurus CS twice once for my PT111 & once for my PT145. I needed a magazine catch & a firing pin dust cover. They asked for the serial #'s told me all about my two guns and sent me the parts no charge not even for shipping charges. I have nothing but good to say about Taurus CS.

Some folks like to bash Taurus but I think they make a good gun. but then some armchair gun folks bash anything that the common man can only afford.

My Taurus SS PT1911 had a high spot in the mag well.50% of the after market mags (Checkmate & Kimber) did not want to seat or got stuck. Some quick work with a file solved my problem.
