The Forgotten Warriors who TERRIFIED the Japanese in WW2
Fiercely loyal as an ally, yet merciless as an enemy. You did not want these guys on your bad side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG_gmcOVQwg Do NOT piss these guys off. Still fighting with the Brits in the middle ease.

From the Comments:
Not sure why yr title says forgotten?? The gurkhas are held in high asteem to all Britons to this day mate. I concur - there was no-one - NONE - in Britain who had anything but the highest regard for the Ghurkas.

Another from the comments:
"If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or he is a Gurkha." - Former Indian Army Chief of Staff Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. I was told a story once about the ghurkas being trained to jump out of planes once by a british officer. The british officer was explaining via translator that they would begin their training jumping from around 1200ft. When the ghurkas heard this the officer was confused when he sensed some reservations and dismay among them. Seeing as how the ghurkas were marketed as being ultimate badasses, how could they be so uneasy about routine combat jump training? The ghurkas relayed to the translator that maybe they could begin their training jumping at around 500ft instead. To this the officer explained that the parachutes would not work properly unless they were jumping from 1000ft or more. The ghurkas immediately seemed relieved and said something to the translator, who then started laughing. "What'd he say?", the british officer asked the interpretor. The interpretor, who was still laughing, replied to the officer: "They said 'Oh, we're getting parachutes?'" |
