That rifle kicked like a son of a bitch. If memory serves, it was 5600 foot pounds out of a carbine type rifle.

Yep, that will kick your ass.
You IS a MAN now. Kinda like my Ruger #3, in the hot .45-70 loads. Five pound single shot carbine style. |

The .416 Rigby is a low pressure cartridge. Now a .416 Remington Magnum is high pressure & even heavier recoil.
My .416 Rem. Mag was built light because I carried it more then shooting it. I figure when it comes time to shoot the recoil becomes a second thought. It still amazes me how tough african game animals are! My buddies .500 Nitro Express double rifle has way less felt recoil, & considerable more weight. |

One of my psycho gunsmith buddies built his bigger version of am XP-100 and chambered it for .510 Wells. We had to wear a motorcycle helmet and welding gloves to shoot it.

Anyone ever hear of a round called the 600 Overkill? I never shot it, but I have seen the rifle, and I have a cartridge.

The old man ordered in a Heym Jumbo in .600 Nitro Express. I told him I hope that wasn't one of his personal guns as I really didn't want to sight it in for him. |

I use to reload 12ga one ounce cast slugs back in my scattergun man days. When rifled slug barrels first came out. Nobody liked shooting them but they stayed on paper at 100 yards.

The 416 Rigby is not such a hard kicking round compared to other big bores, but putting it in a 7.5 pound Ruger No. 1 is unwise. All big bores should be a solid 10 pounds. Consider 11 to 12 pounds for rounds like the 505 Gibbs and 500 Jeffery. And leave the scope at home....
