Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

The glass appears to be pressed into the metal.

What I am working on is pendant lights using mason jars with the bottoms removed and the metal lids. I was going to use painted current style lids but changed my mind because I like the look of the old zinc better.

The reason for keeping the porcelain insert intact is to use them on a wind chime for my wife. I don't believe that is going to happen.

Thanks for all of the ideas fellars.

Hammer time!

It's applied to the metal and fused to it by heat, I don't think there is any other way. wear eye protection.

I have never eaten there even though there is one in town. I am guessing that they have mason jar pendants?

Lowes had a pendant light that we liked but did not like the rectangular ceiling mount configuration or the cord/wiring used. So I decided that I could add some mods to their design to suit our wants.

This is the one that Lowes had on display:

It was $199 when we looked at it. The price wasn't the reason though. We want a circular or oval mount for the ceiling and cloth covered, twisted wires.

Today I tapped a glass insert with a small hammer. THAT is the fastest way to get the insert out of the lid. Oh well, so much for that wind chime.

If you are going to cut the bottoms out of the jars . . .
THEY would also make good chimes.
Last summer I gave away over 20 cases of canning jars.
Could have done something with those also.

try soaking them,,just the lid end, in warm/hot water and taking a leather belt, wrapping around the lid and leveraging with a stick or your hand even ,,add extra torque to the twist any way you can.....gently of course,,I'd wear thick leather gloves

I tried many ways and the only way to move on was to break the ceramic.

I have not given up, still in progress. A higher power has me doing something else.
