New gun oil and cleaning agents on the market
I'm a sucker for snake oil salesmen. Now, they don't even have to leave their homes to sell me their stuff.
At $50 for the kit, I don't know if I am going to do it, but dang if this stuff doesn't look pretty slick.... https://www.modernspartansystems.com/

CLP,LSA pretty hard to beat.
Most of the "new latest and greatest" oil and cleaners are usually hype. Keep coming back to the old standbys. If you buy it post your results. |

Sounds like a "cure for all". I'll stick to the basics like I've done for 50 years.

TNW-24 I think it is. Synthetic lube. Anyway, it's what I've been using ever since I built an MG34. Expensive, but slippery as wet snot on glass and takes just a tiny coating to do the job.

First thing I thought of was Slick-50 that I saw back in the early 80s.

You could have posted this fifty years ago or fifty years from now, there's always a newest, latest, greatest, bestest, option out there. Come back in a decade and see if it still exists. If not, you saved $50.

They still make that stuff? I haven't seen it in years.
Of course, I haven't really looked for it, either. Used to use it when an engine had been abused or had 1/2 gazillion miles on it. Puts a nice cushion between the rod bearings and the crankshaft. Sometimes quiets down them noisy 'ol lifters, too. Makes me wonder if its any good for guns...

While it sounds great for moving parts to reduce friction I don't see any mention of cleaning ability or protection ability. That's big that's what I like about Breakfree CLP you don't need one for cleaning one for lubing one something else for protecting.

Slick Stuff
This very "oily", (i.e. slick, greasy) lubricant appears to adhere very well to metal, with little or no creep. Thus it does not appear to drain from slides and parts during extended storage. From the formula it appears that it might not be suitable at very low temperatures. 2 parts Dexron II or III automatic transmission fluid 1 Part Mobil-1 Synthetic Oil, 30 weight, or 10W-30 1 Part STP Oil Treatment (the stuff for "old" cars w/ over 30,000 mi.) A bunch of recipes at the link: http://frfrogspad.com/homemade.htm |
