Newbie powder inquiry
Keeping with forum rules, I'm simply looking for feedback on powder Brand/designation for .30 M2 ball Garand loads, and .45 acp fmj.
Figured I'd ask y'all first. |

Unique and Bullseye were all I used loading 45acp and colt. I used Reloader19 on my 7.62x63 and 7.62x51 rounds. Never tried anything else. I quit reloading about ten years ago when COPD got the best of me. If I remember right Steve, you can't post loading data on this fourm.

If I remember correctly, IMR 4895 was the original powder for M2 ball production and a lot of people like to use that to replicate the factory load.
As for the .45 ACP, Bullseye for target shooting or Unique for a little wider range of loads.

titegroup is an option too
biggest thing about loading for a garand is getting the 'curb' correct. i've made up 4350 and varget loads that worked safely. what you really need is one of those spiffy adjustable gas plugs so you can shoot loads that basically go "poof" but cycle the gun. Cheaper to buy a damn set of bullet molds than it is a 100rd box of bullets anymore. i've been looking at .264 bullet prices and my mind is blown.

What ever powder you use, after you take a shot, take a look down the barrel and see if a lot of unburnt power is still there, if it is, see if it will clean up with a hotter primer - if the reloading book gives it an ok. other wise look for a cleaner burning powder. Semi auto & full auto guns don't work real well with powder residue everywhere.

I'm gonna go with CCI primers, and plan on loading to the original M2 pressures.

For bullets 155g or less use IMR4895. For bullets heavier than 155g use IMR4064.

I'm guessing the minimum load listed is proper for M2 pressures using 150gr FMJ?

IMR4064, IMR4350 Always gave good results, as did H414 and IMR4831,
Depending on the rifle. and the bullet! Regards, |

I tried W231 for the .45ACP with good results in a Glock 21 and Ruger SR45.

I used IMR 4064 in my M-1 with good results, but the original powder was 4895. I was reloading for leg matches and used the Sierra 168gr HPBT bullet, so I wasn't trying to duplicate the ball ammo load.
In my .45 ACP I use 700X powder because I have a 4-lb can of it... |
