I like it except the flat mainspring housing ... I know the 1911 came with the flat mainspring housing but it just doesn't fit my paw right.

just curious, i hear a few others say the same thing. the curved housing seems to kinda "wrench" itself away from my palm a bit before i can empty the mag focusing on the followup shot. sooo i'm asking if the flat housing just doesnt feel right or does it move around or? everybodys got a different set of mitts, so lets anylize.

Point shooting, convulsive grip (because you're 'nerved up' an scared (which includes everyone being shot at) with the flat mainsspring housing and virtually everyone will shoot low. And at 0300 on a dark night you're pointing not aiming.
That was the reason for the change. Leisurely shooting at the range, (even "rapid fire") and it's not a factor because you are using the sights. Cavalryman on a moving horse isn't using the sights either, except the front sight as a reference point. Difference shows when you're pointing instead of aiming, even at very close range. Remember, originally the G.I specs, referred to the 1911/1911a1 as having an effective range of 50 FEET. Defensive shootings by private cirizens occur in the 3-6 FOOT range, a perfect sight picture might slow a shooter down just a tad too much. Issued a 1911 in '57 and my point shooting (Panic shooting?) was unacceptble, switched to a 1911a1 and the improvement was instantaneious. Both issue and well used, the difference was the arched mainspring housing. Only twisting I ever experienced was following surgery to my left shoulder I just didn't have enough strength in my left hand to to get the firm grip required on a 1911/1911a1. OTT it's just which ever version's looks and feel appeal to you. Regards, ... |

interesting, ive grown rather fond of those hogue grips and may put them on the 10mm just to see if there is difference, its got the curved housing. my hands are about mid size and the job keeps em pretty strong.

The neon blue parts are nitre blued which is correct for the 1911 commercial manufactured in 1900. It was common for manufacturers to use this blueing method for small parts. It is not very durable on parts that receive a lot of wear but it will blue a very highly polished part and is beautiful. The rest is carbona blued.

Very enduring model, has class.
Not like some "newer styles" of today. |
