Old map
I bought an old school history text book which has an interesting map of the United States.
When most people think of the Texas revolution and the Alamo they think of Texas as it exists now but if you look at the Mexican Province of Texas, you can get a better idea of the size of the original territory and why the Alamo was so important because of its location on the border.

I've got some old maps of this area.
I was down to the Alamo last week.

My father in retirement was an antique collector dealer and I got to pour over lots and lots of very old reference books. Amazing how the world was still little undiscovered back in the 1700s into the early 1800s. Reading about Africa was the most interesting. Lot of animal species were really still rumors in reference books with the gorilla being one of the funniest from his 1700s books. "References persist of a human like figure who walks upright and is covered with hair."
