SSG Barry Sadler on the Jimmy Dean Show
I remember the first time I heard this song. I was a young boy, at my Mom's cousin's place for Thanksgiving dinner, just outside McGregor IA. Two of her cousins had served in the Army and had returned from Vietnam (very late 60's or very early 70's).
I remember one of them as 'balanced', and the other as 'wild & crazy'. I know one was an MP, don't know what the other was. I remember talking with them and upon us leaving, the 'balanced' one, gave me a set of 1SG stripes, telling me, "Listen, Learn, Do, & you'll go far". Mom sewed them on my jean jacket when we got home. I didn't make it to 1SG but, I did make SGT/E5(P), when I pulled the plug and decided to not reenlist again. This is the first time I've seen this interview/video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri6Z...=JamesStiltner |

I still have the record. Just don't have anything to play it on.

I also liked his Casca: The Eternal Warrior series of books. I don't know what happened to my collection of them.
When I thought I'd replace them, they were hella expensive, just for paperbacks. I don't think they were ever published in hardcover. It's usually better to haunt used book stores for things like that. If they have them, they'll be resonably priced. Like the Conan books I picked up. Yeah, paying $8.00 for a paperback with an original price of 85 cents seems excessive, but there will never be more of them. |
