Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default I picked up a Colt 100th Anniversary model 1911

I was at a gun show Saturday and ran across a deal I couldn't pass up. It was made in 2011 to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 1911.

This might be good trading stock for a new Glock.

I remember when those came out. I was wanting one, but never did swing it.

Very nice.

You could get a few Jennings in trade.

Wasn't the series 70 the last desirable Colt 1911?

No difference except for that firing pin safety and the hammer. Series 80 can be converted to Series 70 for a $10.00 shim to replace a couple of parts designed by lawyers.

I already did that on my Sig 1911. I'll post a picture when I do it.

Question

Pogo, are you going to shoot that or stick it in the safe for a collectors piece?

I'm going to shoot it. I have already ordered a target hammer, disconnecter and sear for it. I'll post pictures when I get them.

From Brownells I ordered a Series 80 slot filler. That is to fill the slot when you remove the unnecessary firing pin safety. https://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...prod13121.aspx

From Brownells I ordered a Wilson Combat spring kit. https://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...prod59701.aspx

When I said "Trigger Kit", I actually meant "Hammer Kit" as this is what affects the pull of the trigger. It includes a matched hammer, sear, and disconnector.

There are three well known companies that manufacture reduced pull hammer kits: Ed Brown, Nowlin, and Cylinder & Slide. There are other lesser known companies as well. They are all similarily priced with a couple of companies very high priced. I've done a lot of research and it seems Cylinder & Slide is a favorite among shooters who build up their own race gun. Cylinder & Slide builds race guns as well. http://www.cylinder-slide.com/index....show&ref=GRFIS

I ordered my hammer kit directly from Cylinder & Slide. https://cylinder-slide.com/Item/CS0372

I measured the trigger pull on my Colt 1911. And as it is now it has a 5.5 lb pull. The new hammer kit should drop it to approx 4 lbs. And the Wilson Combat spring kit has a reduced hammer spring that will drop the hammer tension from approx 23# to 18.5#. That should cause the trigger pull to drop about another 1/2 lb which would leave my trigger pull at appprox. 3.5 lbs which is what I want.

Now the reason I ordered a full spring kit is because you can't just reduce the hammer spring. If you did that, it would affect the timing of the slide. The slide would move to the rear too fast causing an erratic failure to eject.

The spring kit includes a heavier recoil spring which balances out the lighter hammer spring, and properly slows down the rearward thrust of the slide.

Another option a person tuning a 1911 has is to slightly bend to the rear the trigger spring prong in the flat main spring. I probably won't do that until I check the trigger pull after I have installed the new components.
