Food Allergies
Who has a food allergy? There are only 2 possible answers to this question. One is "I do." The other is "Not yet." Anyone who thinks they can "eat anything" probably has a nasty surprise waiting out there somewhere.
My allergy is sesame seeds. Or sesame oil is just as deadly. And I do not use the term "deadly" lightly. Sesame will kill me in about 20 minutes...or the time required for a good black mamba bite. The really strange thing about my problem is I ate sesame seeds on buns and chow cooked is sesame oil all my life. Then about 1980 my body said, "Enough is enough." This is how it goes for lots of folks. Their body seems to tolerate something all their life and then one day they get up and that food is toxic. I axed my doctor about this seeming phenomenon and he told me I was most likely always allergic to sesame. And like many "poisons" the effect may be cumulative. Each time you ingest this toxin your body moves closer to the red line until that fun filled day you cross the line. On one such sesame attack I made the mistake of trying to just "tough it out," thinking it would go away. That was nearly fatal and got my heart to thrashing about like fish out of water. Dr told me to never try to ride out an allergic reaction. Many can be deadly. So what's your poison? I'll bet I'm not the only one. |

Citrus but it's not lethal.
Also if I get real cold I break out in hives big time. |

I'm beginning to think each added year, to my life, is a bit toxic.
Each year my body complains a bit more. Don't really think it has become really toxic though. But it IS reaching the "cumulative" stage. I'll let you know in the morning. (or I won't.) |

Those are some interesting situations, Gus.
The secret to food allergies is if you just have to have one........pick one that is easy to avoid. Citrus could be a tough bullet to dodge. -------------------- 10B I know what you mean about "toxic years," some more toxic than others. |

Coffee, is surprisingly, one of the main toxic products people put in their system. Read it on the computer so it must be true.
I drink it every morning. But ever wonder why you have too pee and most times hit the bathroom, soon after drinking coffee. Your body wants that great stuff out of there. My sister is allergic too beer. Wish the hell I was.

I'd bet the most toxic thing people eat is...salt. The catch is there are a LOT of foods that are "toxic" and the question is dosage. The way many people drink coffee amazes me how they keep from falling over dead. Salt is a little more subtle killer. But I'd hate to see either taken off the market.
I'm thinking one of the most dangerous things people eat are from the nuts and seeds categories. Nuts and seeds are hot loaded with various chemicals and concentrated doses of most things is running on thin ice. |

None to speak of here. But, I cannot swallow salmon. It's most likely psychological, but I just can't swallow it, as it hangs up in my throat and won't go any further. It's odd, because that one of the few species that I like the flavor of.

My wife is highly allergic to seafood....not fish, but everything else living in the water. Me...I don't know yet....I guess all foods, since I seem to get fat by just eating.

Same here with Lima beans. If I was stuck in a raft a sea I would not eat them. Die first.
Guess the body needs an intake of sodium too retain water. Plus potassium to expel water. Equal parts of both. I drink a lot of orange juice. Florida. So I go too the V.A. Doc and she says your blood work is fine. But. Uh oh. "If you dont stop your intake of potassium, your going too kill your kidneys." "What." Too much potassium will kill you. Too much Vitamin A will kill you. Guess everyone has an allergy something. Those "Tic Tak" breath mints. If I eat one of those. My heart rate goes into overtime. |

You guys nailed it. Anyone who isn't allergic to something...either by eating it or breathing it...or I guess we should including rubbing it on our skin........well, they are probably already dead.

Yes for real..
Quote:
My buddies wife is deathly allergic too shellfish. We were out too eat lobster. Her husband cracked a lobster claw and got some of the lobster on her face when he cracked it. Sorry. But I thought it was a bit funny. 20 minutes later it was not funny. She was on the ground. Face and neck swelled up, cutting off her airway. We had too call an ambulance. Hospital gave her something and saved her life. All that from just touching her skin. |

Sadly, my food allergy is brewer's yeast. A half bottle of beer will completely shut down my nose and sinuses.
Wife reacted to whatever is in Killian's Red. Face and neck swelled and got all blotchy. Only ever happened with Killian's.

Yep, I've heard of allergies to fish etc. Not funny. None of this stuff is "funny." IMHO everyone should carry Benedryl. Taken immediately it will usually head off a full blown allergic reaction. The problem is taken orally it's going to be 15 or 20 minutes to get into your system and you may not have that long to live.
Otherwise you can plan on a trip to the ER and a shot of effinefrin. (Sorry 'bout spelling) Peeps with such deadly reactions can carry this stuff and inject themselves. I used to do just that but have gotten very good at avoiding sesame. I won't touch a seed and won't eat a bread or cracker or granola bar w/o full list of ingredients. |

My wife has reactions to bee stings and eating strawberries.
Either one, she will need a shot as quickly as possible. |
