Powder Scales
Tell ya guys, I have used an RCBS balance beam scale for years. Keep the dust from building up on the beam and it is accurate as the day I bought it.
However lately I have been thinking about an electronic scale. I know they are faster, but that's not my concern, I'm never in a hurry when I reload. What y'all think. |

I've got an old Lyman balanced beam scale. Still accurate.
Like you, I'm thinking of going electronic. I'm thinking about the Lyman digital powder system. New 1200DPS II Digital Powder System Lyman's Revolutionary 1200DPS Digital Powder System combines a precision electronic Powder Scale and an automatic Powder Dispenser into one easy to use design. The new DPS II now has the capacity to store up to 100 of your favorite loads. Best of all, you can easily recall any of them by Cartridge, Specific Powder and Weight. No Powder Calibration (Flow Rate) is required, just select the load you want and start dispensing powder. It dispenses powder quickly and is accurate to + or - 1/10 grain. It can be used as a complete Dispensing System, just a scale or as a Scale and a Powder Trickler. The 1200DPS II is fast, accurate and affordable. Note: not for use with black powder.

I have an RCBS 505 myself, and I agree, you can't beat it for accuracy. I too have been seriously looking at the RCBS powder dispenser/digital scale combo. I have been saving my pennies for it, but every time I get close, I see a weapon I want more. Then boom, back to the beginning of saving again, but someday I want to get one.

One thing though. It can't be integrated with my Dillon progressive reloader. It would be great if somehow I could accomplish that.

Rew, I think we're all on the same page! All I can say is "DITTO" to everyone. I've wanted one since they came on the market, save a few bucks, then something else comes up. And the old lyman is still accurate! But someday ...... someday ... Regards, |

Well, having used the RCBS 5-0-2, 5-0-5, and 10-10 scales for the past 45 years I finally broke down and ordered the RCBS 1500 Combo unit.
It arrived earlier this week, and I have been playing with it. It is extremely accurate. A bit noisy when in high speed mode, but totally tolerable in regular and trickle speeds. It takes up a lot less room on the bench than the scales, the Lyman 55 measure and the trickler. I have played with 17 different powders and it works just great. HOWEVER...emptying the thing when using fine ball powder is a pain in the butt! (Like H-380, H-414, etc.) Calibration is simple, warm-up time is quick. Why did I select the RCBS 1500 unit? Because I checked-out the Lyman, the Pact and the RCBS 750, and the 1500 was the best.

Welcome to the Forum ricciardelli,
And thanks for the information. Sound like I should take a hard look at that RCBS 1500! So much in the Gun world is like the computer world, until you get one and use it you never know what you really should have purchased in the first place. Thanks for the opinion! Regards, |

First of all, it was the fastest.
Secondly, when the charges thrown by the 1500 were weighed on the balance scales (all three), they were exactly what I had punched-in the 1500 as the desired weight. Thirdly, it is green. |

Hehe, mater of opinion. I'll take Army green anyday, and I kind of like Lee red, but Lee don't mke an eletronic scale.

I do too 1911.
I wish Dillon would make a digital powder dispenser system. If I thought they were in the process of developing one, I'd wait for them. I might give them a call next week and ask them if they are working on one. |
