That isn't the part that bothers me, it was the trying to sleep, while chunks of metal kept passing through that mildew tainted old canvas. I prefer now, to sleep on, or slightly below ground level. Although, I am not ready to join the six foot under club (hence my allergy to them chunks of flying metal)!

The smell of that GI canvas on my Jeeps etc...reminds me of when I was a young, hardass, Staff Sgt and the world was my oyster. I don't believe the drunken, psychoneurotic bitch from hell, I lived with for 16 years, left much in the way of camping photos...when she flapped her leathery wings the fuck out of here. Why do evil chicks, satan's spawn, always got to fuck with a man's photo albums?

I think as far as pictures go, a guy isnt normally much for taking a lot of pictures. Nobody wants to be the guy trying to get everybody together and saying cheese, or any crap like that. In fact, taking pictures at all is an admission of excessive interest in something. For a guy, this is usually acceptable only when that something is cars, guns, or chicks (although you normally dont want to get caught taking chicks pictures. unless they want you too. thats why we like to look at pictures of them that somebody else took). We normally won't waste time taking a buttload of pictures of the same damn thing, or any more than necessary at any time. So the pics we DO have are meaningful to us. This is good cause for a crazy she-devil to form a hatred of our photo album. Especially if it contains pics of us and our friends' drunken debauchery, pictures including some of our exes, old cars we wish we still had, and apartments they would not have stepped foot in.. Knowing the value these cornacopia's of memories have to us, makes them a priority target. And also a much safer one most of the time than our guns or cars.

Pogo I picked up one of those Harbor fright trailers at a local auto auction. Not to darn bad. Mine is the 4X8 foot bed but I extended it a little. I'll get some pic's when the snow melts offen it. It's got the larger 12" tires and a one ton capacity. I gave $100 for it.

I remember "camping" in the Mojave desert once, and the tents were worse than sleeping out under the stars. Needless to say, because of the slithery critters, I did not sleep on the ground.

Ya, camped out with Army in Mojave back in 75, like 3 weeks in the field.
We had no cots and had no choice to sleep but the ground in a goose down filled sleeping bag. I don't recall a tent. Slept under the camo netting next to the wall of the TOC (GP Large). My shift was night, so I was expected to get to sleep at 0800 hrs after chow, about 120 deg outside. Today's camping experiences are sometimes kinda like Pogo's set up, or primitive, with bivvie bag and pack, AK and 45 (cougar country) I'm going to do a 4 day paddle/float/fish by day, pull over at night to camp (on uninhabited, inaccessible side), eating MREs mostly, eggs/flapjacks for Breakfast one or two days, hopefully a few fish for the dinner meal with vacuum packed rice/veggies I'll heat in boiling water. When the day is done, and I'm all washed up, cooking gear /cleaned, stowed, I'm going to use my little mountain stove oven attachment (a tent-like thing) and bake cookies, put on my iPOD and read/rock until dark. Kinda a Sabbatical from the Human Race. Might even bring the g-tar. |
