Why was the Bf 109 so slow compared with the P51?

Without yet viewing the video, I'd have to say
it was because the German plane did not have
the Merlin engine.

But then I am biased. Perhaps mechanically racist.

That’s the short answer, Merlin + better fuel (130 octane or 150. Jerry had 95 IIRC) and two manifold/super charger ratio packages.

and higher manifold pressure .. Smaller engine but more horsepower

According to one commentator the Americans considered the Bf109 the tougher opponent and the British considered the Fw190 the more dangerous.

This is a video of an air show of a Mustang D and a Fucker wolf. You have to read the description to get any information. He has odd comparisons like Fw190 vs. Corsair. Radial engine vs. radial engine is the only sense that would make.

Looked over a Messerschmidt 109 fighter at AF museum in Dayton Ohio. I was amazed at just how small it seemed.
