I've shot quite a few pigeons when i was younger, but it's been many years since I last had the opportunity. The ones we have over here taste just fine. Also, I remember eating a lot of pigeon pie in Morocco which was REALLY yummy. But I suppose it all depends on what the pigeons eat, since their food naturally effects how their meat tastes.

Is it dove season yet? I've been dreamin' about murderin' the little bastards. I hate birds. They shit on everything.

Dove hunting is great! And a mess of fried dove breasts is lip smackin'.
But one of the neatest things about dove hunting is they are about the only bird you can hunt sitting on your ass...at least in the dry countries I've always hunted them in. Come hell or high water, after a hard day in the field or seed hunting, a dove is going to have a drink of water before bedtime or die trying. We always figured out the canyon or whatever they were using as the "flyway" between water and grain or roosting area. Then sit still and let the dove come to you late in evening. I see this acted out this summer out my back window each evening as the surrounding dove will risk their lives to come steal a drink from my cat Gitmo's water bowl. When she first came and adopted me, this would have been a fatal mistake in front of Gitmo. Lucky for the dove I now have her so satisfied and lazy that she just lies around and watches with one sleepy eye before dozing back off and dreaming of the days when she hunted for a living. |

PS - A wet season or living where there's plenty of water around blows to hell the above hunting technique.

Hey Magnus. Where you been? Glad to see you are still around. Welcome back.
Baked dove breast smothered in gravy is some good eating.

Dove is excellent cooked properly. Breast tastes like veal, with a wine cream sauce added too the breast.
Colorado, Steamboat Springs. 4 thousand shotgun shells and doves a plenty. No I dont hunt anymore. Cant even kill a spider. But those were some good old days. Edit: Yeah Magnus. Get too postin more. Damn when I first started on the gun sites you had me too laughing. Dragging an AK down the road behind a truck, for that "Battlefield Look." I said. These guys are nuts. I gotta join.

Yep, I love shoot'em , too!
Best get the gun out of the closet practice I've found. Really gets me some pratice for ducks. Use my duck gun - Just put in a more open choke. Over the years I've tried some good dove recipes. I kinda put several of them together and got a real good one now.
