"The 12.7mm bullet, a machine gun round, has an effective range of 2,200 meters through the air and 60 meters underwater"
https://kitup.military.com/2017/04/s...nderwater.html 60 meters underwater is incredible. Most all tests show rounds to stop at not many meters from firing into water.

On the way to the machine gun shoot my buddy & I were talking about SLAP rounds. He was saying SLAP rounds thru an M60 caused catastrophic barrel failures due to in-bore break-up of the sabot and the penetrator puncturing the side of the barrel.
These look Llke SLAP rounds to me. |

I can see why you might visually compare them to SLAP bullets, but they are not the same. What appears to be a break away sabot, is not meant (or possible) to break away. Thus avoiding the problem you mention.

Could be handy against sharks, Orcas, and Manatees.

Manatees are actually quite docile creatures, content to munch on seaweed and bask in the sun near the surface.
