It was an open manhole - front wheel missed it, or may just have hit it slightly to throw the Cruiser off the line I was on, the rear wheel must have dropped in enough to do the nasty and to turn the vehicle around about 165 degrees, hacking a kerb in the meantime.
That is indeed the rear. Mrs. R-a-R took pix of the obvious damage and of the manhole, but not the whole vehicle. Too bad.

Well, well...what a surprise! The shop told me today that the Cruiser will be ready by
tomorrow afternoon. They were finishing up installing "a whole new back end" today, and the replacement wheel and tyre will be coming along tomorrow. Hope they checked everything else out. Will let you know. |

Insurance companies will just replace damaged parts faster than repairing them, sometimes with generic parts but it makes no difference, they are new nevertheless. They can fix it all within a couple days.

I've read where tweekers ares stealing them, then selling them to the scrap yards.
I've noticed a lot of them around here are tack welded down, now.

A friend of mine in SC tried to take in some construction scrap. The yard would not accept it without a current general contractor's license. They said they have that policy due to so much theft. So he took the scrap home and dumped it in his yard to improve the hillbilly look of the neighborhood. |

Monday I called them and was advised 'the part will be in Wednesday or Thursday.' Not sure whether they are talking about a whole new (and expensive) assembly or just a part. At least the Cruiser hasn't been totalled. |

I liked the way that the FJ driver in grains' video handled his situation. |
