The woodsmsn's holy time is almost upon us
Next week bow season opens up and the start of the NC deer season will run through January in some counties. I know some states probably have started.
Depending on which season hunt; rifle, archery, or black powder.. It's a religious experience in that the seasons we hunt 1. We fast during daylight hours while out in the stand or blind.... the fast of Lent is for lightweights. 2. We sleep little as we get up early in the morning. We also can't go to sleep early as we are jacked up on adrenaline from thinking about it. 3. Most of us abstain from alcohol, unless its a celebration of a kill, to keep our senses and judgement sharp. 4. We pray to God more during this time for a safe hunt and if he sees fit a productive one... We also pray in thanks for a successful kill, before we open up a frothy beverage to complete the ritual. 5. Getting out of the concrete jungle and into what God created is a reason onto its own to be thankful. Be safe and happy hunting Y'all.

I've got oct 3-15 for whitetails with the muzzle loader and Nov 21- Dec 10 with a rifle. All of ML and last week of rifle is either sex. I love dove hunting but a box of shells to get one bird, due to my lack of practice, gets expensive.

Great points, FJ3.
I think I realized before the first deer hunt was over that "just getting out there" was the payoff. I feel sorry for the dumb bastard who come home pissed because they didn't kill anything. |
