Default Any Trout fishermen aboard here? [No, not Kilgore Trout :) ]

I haven't fished for a number of years, but as a kid I did a fair amount of trout fishing when I lived in Utah. One of my favorite places was a lake in the Wasatch range...Ramona Lake...it was about a 5 mile hike to it from where you could park. One of my dad's friends had a stash of pots, pans and other assorted gear stashed up there (it was pristine wilderness then, not sure what it's like today) so we only had to pack in bags, tents, fishin' poles and the like.

Anyway, now I'm in 'Scansin, and there is trout fishin' to be found, and I'm looking to get back into it. Plenty of fishin' in 'Scansin, but trout is attractive given they're a stocked fish (for the most part) thus less likely to be high in mercury, PCBs, etc. And I have a smoker, and smoked trout are nommy!!!

So...any of you guys do any trout fishin'? If so, what are your favorite lures/baits?

Note...don't think I could flick a fly worth a damn, so I'll be hook/lure fishing...got my Ugly Stick and license (hard to believe you need a damned license, but welcome to the land of the taxed to oppression)...

Do a lot of fly fishing out here for trout but also use bait or small spinners. Blue Fox spinners are my favorite.

Dave...very cool and thanks! Actually picked up a couple of Blue Fox's today...they seem to be a highly recommended trout catcher.

Do you run them as is, or add a bit of bait to the tri-hooks?

Also, do you use them the same whether lake or stream, or use them in a particular setting (stream for example) and another type lure for lake?

Trout was all I fished for as a kid. Did some trout fishing in Alaska, but mainly went for salmon. Since moving to WV I haven't fished much. Very few native trout in the streams here, mostly stocked fish which we all know ain't quite the same unless you like liver flavored fish.

Rock worms were always my favorite bait. Rock worms on a simple, small plain hook. Native trout go crazy for them.

Sane as RetVet, Oswald. All I ever used was worm and hook but got friends that fly fish.
Interesting and fun fish to catch, plus good eatin. Salt water trout are plentiful off the costs here, not sure if their related? Their great eating. Trout in the waters down here with these fish? They would be called a snack for them.

I like fly fishing but I don't care for eating trout. My favorite fly fishing spots are the AuSable River in the lower peninsula of Michigan and Big Hearted River in the Michigan UP.

There isn't any good fly fishing waters in the area I live in.

Used to do a lot of trout fishing, years ago. Fish 'till lunch time, bring out the skillet, fry some bacon for the grease, eat as many as I had caught, up to that point, then fish some more. Mid to late 50s, in Oregon, the possession limit was 20, but they couldn't count what was inside ya.

On a side note, tomorrow is Saturday, Idaho "Free Fishing Day."
Last Saturday was Free Fishing in Oregon.

Oswald get some strong line and a heavy reel if yah go to lake fishing up in Maine. We headed up for some trout fishing and the man in the bait shop asked if we were going to use our tackle to catch bait??

ADD: No not photo shopped. They had one about that size on the shop wall. They fish in 200 feet deep lakes for these trout.

Caught a decent sized rainbow trout this evening on a local creek. It may have been just big enough to keep, but just as I was reaching out to grab it, it gave a flip and slipped off the hook.

Damn it...gonna have to get a net.
