Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default Mossberg 500 question.

My son just came into possession of a 500, trade it for an easy plumbing job, he said only a couple shells would go in the tube, I looked at it and there was a wooden rod with a couple of rubber grommets in the tube. Doesn't look like it belongs there, and I haven't tried loading it yet, anyone knows of any reason why that may have been done?

Aha! OK. I figure it was done to limit the number of rounds but didn't know why.

What Baboon said. Most places require you to only have no more than 3 rounds in the gun while hunting, so they put a dowl in the tube to restrict it to only 2 rounds.

Just unscrew the end of the magazine and take it out.

That's what I did. He thought the spring was broken inside when he heard the noise, just needed cleaning and oiling. it cycles OK. It's like the one Rew had. it's a 7+1

I have the 590, and those Mossbergs are like a piece of clay. There are so many different ways you can configure them to your liking.

I took my home defense/skunk/coyote gun out last weekend and ran some #4 buck, #00 buck, and some Brenneke slugs through it -- just to make sure it was still running okay after I put a Magpul stock set on it.

(That Magpul stock sure absorbs recoil better than the factory stock did.)

This one has a pistol grip on it. I have Remington 780 in original configuration, sits in my closet, loaded with 00. Can never go wrong with a shotgun, especially in the middle of the night.
