I have been using Duck Duck Go for a few years now, the first thing I noticed and still like about it was not receiving unwanted ads.
I really got tired of every time I looked up anything like “Assholes” on Google , (the Democrat type), for the next month I was getting ads about faggots & fag clothing. Another thing, I like about it is if you search for something say “Trump” or “Clinton”, you would be shocked at the differences between the suggestions that pop up.

I only use DuckDuckGo. Only one I trust and it pretty much gets you everything Google does.

Duckduckgo and Startpage
Only if I don't get any results from them, will I go to Bing or Google.

As far as switching, if you using Firefox, click on the hamburger menu and go to preferences. From preferences, click on Search. From there, you can select your default engine.
