Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

I'm not saying that all C-rations were bad. It was just a treat to score some LRRP rations once in a while.

My daughter brought me a can of purple drank from New Orleans a couple of years ago. It has sat on a bookcase in our office since then as a novelty.

Having read your post I went to the shelf to pick it up and the can was stuck to the wooden shelf. There is a little residue and don't know why it stuck but I would never drink that stuff.

It may end up as a target soon.

Heathens!

The only MRE's I ever got were first generation. They only had 12 different entrees, and only about 3 were any good.

1. Dehydrated beef patty

2. Dehydrated pork patty

3. loaf

4. Ham and chicken loaf (quite possibly the nastiest concoction I've ever put in my mouth)

5. Ham slices (these were my favorite)

6. Chili (actually had the same ingredients as Alpo dog food)

I can't remember the others, off the top of my head. Maybe a case had 2 of each of those?

Anyway, none of them came with heaters, nor Tabasco sauce. I carried my Tabasco bottle in my ammo pouches, since I was an M-60 gunner and didn't carry magazines in them.

You could make most of them pretty tasty with a little culinary creativity - except the ham and chicken loaf. There was nothing I could do to make that taste good.

You got that right. The first generation MREs are what turned me against MREs. They were horrible. All soldiers hated them.

Dad served from 1948 to 1971 active and reserve. He keep his preps in that cement room in the basement that was under the porch. I became a Marine in 1974 and remember being issued C-rats in the field. I liked the C-rats more than the MREs we got when raft training in the Med in 1975.

I remembered another first generation entree - Beef and barbecue sauce. It wasn't too bad.

But there was reason everyone carried a bottle of Tabasco sauce. I guess so much so, they started including them in the MRE packages.

IIRC the original Meals Refused by Ethiopians came in black plastic pouches, then dark brown?

The closest thing i have ever eaten to MRE's were these dehydrated individual meal entree packages from REI sporting goods that i took camping with me one time.....all the dehydrated food had the same disgusting taste....like it was packed in a synthetic preservative that had a horrible flavor to it..One was chili with beans the next was turkey with wild rice..i ate 2 of them and the rest i threw into the camp fire....they were expensive...give me a can of ravioli or pork and beans any day over that dog shit.
