Picked up a new rifle
today. Well, new to me anyway. Its a Remington 742 BDL in (of course) 30-06. Has basket weave "checkering", darn pretty stock, which has to go first thing. An old Tasco 3-9 scope, in see through mounts. That will come off real soon. After I test fire it, and pick up some extra mags (some 10 rounders), put on a plastic stock and red dot, it will be my dark woods rifle for elk and deer. I'll try to get pic's soon.

Nice find and yeah the stock would have to go To keep it nice and if 25-75 yds is all you can see the red dot is great ,I use them now for my iron sights that can't see anymore !! It's a bitch to get older and still see yourself as ya once was !!! LMAO
If I could only have one rifle it would be a 30-06 !!!! |

Well at 200 to 600+ yards all you hear when it hits a berm is a thud or thump.

I use red dots for about all of my shooting anymore. About the only exception is my cowboy action shooting.

Not to much that has a pulse that a "well placed shot" from a 30-06 won't bring down.

30-06 caliber is one of the most versatile … anywhere from very light to very heavy bullet weight, they hit hard and get it done.

Amen to that,
220 grain loads have killed everything in North America very, very dead. And done it often! Wouldn't feel helpless in Africa, if that's all I had. Don't forget, 7mm Mauser and .303 Enfield have probably killed more Elephant than everything else put together. Might not be an ideal first choice for everything, but it will get the job done. My customized 1917 Enfield might be a tad worn for long range Target competition, but she's still plenty good for hunting, Just a tad heavy with that Target stock. Still the original barrel too, maybe those WWI guys were better armed than we might think. 7mm Mag was real popular here for a while, but when you compare real world chronograph and ballistics, there really isn't much if any difference between it and the 30-06. Still the one to judge all the others by. Yup! I'm kinda partial to the '06. Regards, |
