Waste of good firewood, right there.
But dang if that doesn't look fun. I wonder how it would fare against salt cedar/tamarisk? A guy could make a fortune getting rid of that stuff in the creek beds around New Mexico, or by getting rid of the mesquite in the river bottoms on the Gila River in Arizona.

Salt Cedar, I sure remember that nasty tree. Even find one in this part of the country on occasion. Idaho considers it a noxious weed and it is to be destroyed. You can't poison it, from the outside, it won't ingest herbicide chemicals.
There is a toxic, super strong chemical (don't know the name) that you put on the stump IMMEDIATELY after cutting down the tree. But if you wait even a few minutes, it will be too late because the sap forms a protective barrier. |

I've cut a ring about two inches deep around a thorn tree
and squirted Thordon in the cut and it would kill a thorn tree that was four feet around, and thorn trees are hard to kill. In a years time damn near every limb would have fallen off of one of them and they, the tree, never came back. Some really bad shit, I had to be licensed to buy it... |

They sell mesquite wood chips in all the big retailers here for smoking meats, not that cheap. It says to soak the chips in water for 15 minutes and toss it on the coals. That is one of the best smoking woods I have ever used. Do they use it out West for smoking or is it just us East coast guys?

Never tried smoking mesquite, doesn't sound like my flavor. I've seen it for sale in the stores though, quite a large bag. If I get a chance I'll try some in my pipe and let you know. |
