Asphalt Laid on Australian Dirt Road
Actually they are metalling a dirt road i.e. laying gravel on (probably) tar, not
asphalt. A large version of how roads in GB used to be surfaced - lots of cracked windscreens for a few days after. https://www.yahoo.com/gma/video/asph...185624840.html

We call it chipping, when it's over an existing road.
It's different than laying a road with hot mix to create hard surface pavement. Normal to do on secondary roads. Grade and compact the soil (base), spray tar, cover with gravel and run the rollers over. Wait a few days then run the sweepers over it to remove the excess. |
