My Elk Hunt
Well, I got some pics from my nephew, who was the photographer for the hunt. I wish there were more, but I'm happy to have some...
My new tent One of the only times we were back in camp during the day. I'm making a steak sandwich, and my brother in law is catching a couple z's. Hell Roaring Mesa - I was hunting up on top of there the first day. Lots of tracks, but no elk. Bull "dusting" spot -- A bull pissed here, then rolled around in it. Probably more than once. This is on the side of a steep hill. The spot was still moist. Me on the left, and my nephew Just climbed this: The pinon tree on the left kept me from sliding back to the bottom. It was an "oh shit" moment, as in that was the only thing I said. The view from the top Me, after I recovered my breath -- 8,500 ft. above sea level. One guy in the camp got his cow elk on the opening day. He wasn't interested in keeping anything but the meatiest parts. We didn't know he was going to leave so much neck meat. He did drive his elk home (200 mi. one way) then come back to finish the hunt with the rest of us. Myself and his uncle both missed our elk. We'll be back next year!
