Four Hunters in Montana Mauled by Grizzly Bear in Three Attacks
A pistol on my side, with a caliber that begins with a "4" and ends with a "4".

It may be time to kill a bear.

Even a 44mag might not stop it

ADD; People wonder why the hunters just don't shoot the bears when their attacking? In my virtual weekly job of chasing the black bears away from my garbage here understand one thing. If they get close in an ambush situation when I say fast I cannot describe or underestimate their speed until you witness it. Some run most just laugh at me and keep eating even when I bounce a beer bottle over their cranium. If Mr. bear gets within 20 or 30 feet of you and charges? Unless your finger is on the trigger and pointing guess what? Unless your Wild Bill Hitchcock fast? You ain't going to react fast enough. Their short 0 to 60 speed has to be seen to be believed.

I am confident my Model 29 will put the lights out of
anything that lives and breathes in North America. 240 grain magnum hollow points. Sight picture . Sight alignment. Trigger control . Place them well. Have another 6 or 12 in your front right pocket , just in case , JD. MERC

Takes 4 more shots to stop it , and one of the guys got mauled. It was Amazing video, the two guys were excellent shooters also . |

I'm trying to get my brother-in-law to get the game cam pics of the grizzly his buddy got in Arizona. He's seen them. He says it is a brownish-blond bear. Game and Fish is secretly re-introducing them into Arizona.
It is a huge public safety hazard, as they aren't informing anyone as to what they are doing. I wonder if they will admit it after the first hikers get mauled and killed? |

A 9mm is only going to make the bear angrier. 44 magnum at least or take a long gun with you.

The smallest I carry is a .357 Mag in bear country, but I prefer a .44 mag. A .45 ACP hits about like a .357 mag, so I've been known to carry a 1911 as well.
Old Sam Foster, one of the last of the professional bear hunters in Arizona, only carried a .22 revolver. Crazy son-of-a-gun. He'd go right into a bear cave and put one behind the critter's ear. Cancer got him when the bears couldn't. May he R.I.P. |
