Did I screw up today?

My son has Fridays off work, It's been raining here, and we're shut down because of the rain......

I text him last night, asking if he'd ride along to Cabela's in Owatonna MN. He lives roughly 1/2 way in between my place & Cabela's.........

He replied, "Oh Hell Yeah!"

I picked him up shortly after 'Noon'.......

While at Cabela's, the first thing I sought out & found, was a new 'gunbelt'..............and then we went an perused the firearms and ammo sections.........

I found a Browning A5 'Sweet 16' w/ vent rib barrel, for (IIRC), $749. This work of art was in GOOD condition...... No rust on the barrel or other metal parts, very few 'scrapes' on the stock & forearm....

I also found a 'Herters' Browning A5, in 20 Ga......for $249. It had considerable rust spots on the barrel........

I know 16 Ga. & 20 Ga. ammo is more expensive that 12 Ga. ammo.

Did I screw up by NOT buying the Browning 'Sweet 16'?

You can get 20 gauge at Walmart. I'm not sure about 16. Never messed with a 16, as they seem to be pretty rare in my part of the country. I've never even seen 16 ga ammo for sale anywhere.

Use an older, pure copper, penny to scrape rust off without marring the finish. I also use a copper brush.

I didn't buy either. The wife would've shot me if I did.........because we hadn't discussed a firearm purchase prior.

16ga ammo isnt stocked much.

20ga is plentiful and same basic price as 12ga

Only three I see on the shelves around here is 12, 20 and 28 ga shells.
Sure wish I'd see an A5 for $249, I'd have grabbed it for sure.
I can take care of rust and finish issues

I'd suggest 0000 steel wool and oil for that.

I think you made a wise move. For me, making unplanned, quick-draw purchases usually are not good purchases. They're just satisfying the spoiled little boy inside of me that want. Also, I never surprise my wife with expensive purchases. She always gets a vote, as do I. As for caliber, I have zero interest in 16 gauge or any other hard-to-find caliber.
