Sold my canvas tent and ordered a rooftop tent
I sold my 12'x9' canvas tent on Craigslist (which was an experience in itself - damned cheap-ass lowballers).
Then, I just placed an order for this to mount to the roof of my Xterra: http://www.cascadiatents.com/Mt-Shas...&s=615&&id=116 I didn't want a popup tent trailer, but I like the idea of the quick set up and breakdown. Plus, it takes up a lot less room in my vehicle than the other tent with poles did. In fact, you can leave your bedding inside the tent and fold it all up together.

Excellent choice, I would have done the same.
Quick set up, and minus all that extra stuff. Only diff is that you don't, necessarily, have a set up camp site. You take your camp site WITH you! |

They are real popular in the Republic of South Africa. Mainly to keep elephants from stepping on you in your sleep.

I got it and mounted it on the Xterra. Had to get some longer bolts, as the rack rails are thicker than most vehicles, and had to trim the mounting rails to make it open off to the passenger side.
Didn't get any pictures, though. It's been raining pretty much since I put it up there. Thank goodness it came with a good, heavy duty cover to keep it dry. It is certainly being tested. I also ordered some security nuts for it. Wife got me paranoid that someone might steal the tent off the vehicle in a parking lot. At least with the puzzle nuts, they'll have a harder time of it. Hell, they'll probably just steal the whole truck, instead. At least that is insured. |
