Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

The lack of a bayonet, and the inability to mount one (the regular M-91/30 bayonet will not mount on a M-38 carbine) is the reason the M-44 was produced.

FWIW you'll also find a lot of the M38's that are out there now are using the M44 stock. You can tell if it an M44 stock because it will have a notch on the right side where the bayonet would rest if it had one. Since I collect them I am now trying to find an M38 with the authentic M38 stock.....

I was talking about this thread and the boy went out to his travel trailer and brought in his MN.
Sucker's a mile long but the trigger is super smooth.
He says, "I think it's a model 44."
Couldn't prove it by me.

If it has a permanently attached fold out bayonet it is an M44 although I don't remember if the 91/59's have the bayonet or not.....but more than likely it is an M44

Just told the boy what you related.
He said it doesn't/didn't have a permanent bayonet attached.
But, it will accept a bayo.

Bears, the bottom on in this picture is a M44. Notice the folding bayo on the side?

If it is "a mile long", it's probably either a 91 or a 91/30. I've got a couple of 91/30s in the picture below. I have one or two more 91/30s tucked away someplace. I used to have a 91, but I don't have one now. I wish I had kept the one I had.

It's like the two on the bottom of your bottom picture.
No sign of ever having a folding bayo either.

OK, it's either a 91, 91/10 or 91/30.

If the front sight is similar to mine, then it's a 91/30. If it is just a single blade, it is probably one of the older ones.

You surely do ! I sold the only one of those I've ever owned. The darn thing shot okay, really it surprised me a little. But, basically, it got to the point to where I realized that if I was going to shoot a bolt-action rifle, I might as well shoot a good one.

Or were you talking about hoopties as a general category ??

I would say as a general category. I've got plenty more low down hoopties.

........... and that's just a start.

It has a sliding, very small "v" rear sight. Increments to 1,000.
THAT is the only part I dislike about the rear sight. The very small 'v'.

So, I reckon it's a "91" (one way or the other then)!
Thanks for the deductions!
Now I can tell him what he actually owns.

Well, PoGo, you've probably got me on quantity. Darn it, I knew better than to sell off all of my "crap" stash. But I *DO* have you beaten in the overall lowest quality single-specimen, I'm pretty sure. I might even have runner-up for this competition, too.

Here is the Runner-Up:

Yes, the duct tape is necessary for the "pistol" to fire.

Yeah Moon, I think you have me beat as far as the one worst hooptie.

And what Bears said is the one thing I most hate about the Mosin Nagant. That rear sight sucks. If it had a good rear sight on it, it would be a much better rifle.
