Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Question Can a static spark set off black powder?

http://www.ctmuzzleloaders.com/ctml_...ks/sparks.html

Quote:
The question of whether a static electric spark can set of black powder has been debated for a while, and I recall hearing of some previous experiments showing that it could not. Since I am involved in the design of a BP breechloader which is to be electrically fired, I resolved to put the matter to test in two experiments.
I found this interesting.

Sparked ferrous material has a sustained spark, that why the flint striking the frizzen works so well.

I was amazed that static electricity wouldn't set off 4x (and more fine) black powder though.

There are accounts of lightning hitting an ammo depot and setting it off, I guess a fire was originally started by the lightning strike which in turn caused the powder to light up. I personally saw one as a kid at a distance of about 3 miles from a hill and it was quite impressive.

Any powder, voided of humidity when properly mixed with air can do a flash fire and the resulting expansion will blow up a silo.

try warming up some flour to get rid of any humidity and blow it on top of a candle and you'll see.

Still does. The Goex black powder plant is about 20 miles away from me and they've had a number of explosions over the years. I think the last one was about six years ago. Almost all of the manufacturing process is done by remote control because the stuff is so easy to set off.

You're welcome.

If you think about it, if static was a problem with reloading, there would be far fewer folks reloading. But, it isn't and there are more and more folks enjoying the hobby all the time.

When I build thermonuclear weapons I always ground myself and use a neutron shield so my fuel doesn't reach critical mass accidentally.
