Any goathead thorns in that area? They will sure eat up a bicycle tire.
If so, you ought to keep a patch kit and pump with you.

There is no more beautiful-looking sky...than the sky in the American Southwest.

I have had at least 10 flat tires in the last month or so......not only goatheads but all the needles from the cholla, chainfruit and other cactus. I have even gotten several flats on the paved road....all the shredded semi truck tire pieces on the shoulder of the road contain steel wire in them ..like a stainless steel wire brush has and these have given me 2 flats......i even bought what are called rino-dillo bike tire/inner tube liners that cost 35 bucks a set and they don't stop the flats. I carry 2 spare inner tubes, a tire rim removal/ install tool, needle nose pliers for pulling the thorns or needles out of the tires and a small bike pump in my back pack........my back pack usually weighs about 20 pounds with the "tools" inside, ammo, water, and various emergency items inside. The reason for carrying the tubes, pump and tire change tool is i had to walk 10 miles back to town one time because of a flat.......the skin on the bottom of my feet peeled off from that walk |

I had to put solid innertubes in my girl's bikes when they were little, because of goatheads.
I used to do all right filling my tires with Slime, but there are better products out there, now.

I was wondering if RinoDillo or Mr. Tuffy tire liners was any good. Around this area it's mostly greenbrier, wild rose and blackberry that punctures tires on trails. |

The rinodillo liners might stop some punctures but the fine steel wire in shredded car tires on the side of the road went right through them 2 times......there are cactus needles out in the desert that will go right through the sole of very thick hiking boots and definitely the running shoes i have been wearing out there.....so i don't think its possible to eliminate the flats 100%. |

I had greenbrier puncture an ATV tire once. And blackberry and wild rose on my bicycles.
I stopped riding on roads most of the time. Just too dangerous and all kinds of crap in the bike lane just like you mentioned. |

And the famous saloon in florence where the old west gunfight happened . The ghost town of cochrane , the coke ovens there and the huge boulders area are very memorable |

Thank you Merc........It is getting hot here (temperature) and yesterday i tried to do my normal bike ride which consists of about 20 miles on pavement and 4 miles in the desert and the temp was at about 90 degrees......it was very difficult for my body to pedal up hills in that heat..I had to stop and sit in the shade for about 30 min to cool down.....(almost passed out) ...i didn't even feel like doing any shooting...and its only going to get worse (hotter) from here.
It looks like im in an air conditioned gym for exercise until further notice. |
