#1 was used for the tests and was practically worn out, when they were done. #2 disappeared, and is often refered to as the $10million dollar Luger. IF it is ever found. There WAS a guy, in the USA who produced .45 cal. Lugers. They were individually crafted. Don't know what happened to his efforts. I do know that there are some videos of him demonstrating them, on You Tube. |

The other 45 caliber Lugers were made by John Martz, a WWII veteran and a machinist at McClellan AFB in California. He would split two Lugers and build a larger frame and re-barrel in 45 ACP. Martz guns typically sell for about $5K to $10K. Martz also made 45 ACP P.38 pistols using the same method. He even produced some long barrel P.38s and If I remember correctly, some cut down pocket 45 cal P.38s. I assume he is no longer active a custom gunsmith. |

There was a guy at a table at the TN military collectors show last Thanksgiving that had a custom made stainless .45 Luger. Said he machined it himself. BIG freaking beast, compared to a "normal" one. Got to hold it and tried to trade into it, but someone there bought it for $8,000 is what I was told. No idea who it was, though.
As to "regular" Lugers, personally I love'em. I used one for a carry gun a few years ago, after I had shot it enough to be satisfied with it and the ammo I was using. It was a 1939 42, if I remember correctly. I would love to have another one and have been looking off and on for one of the modern stainless steel ones from the early 1990s, if I could find one at the right price.

I've got a Michal Arms US made Stainless Steel Luger in my collection...pretty....I guess I could carry it to a barbecue. Now if dad would go and get a very collectable luger It would be an investment. Like this one:
http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_in...a9f044baac0607 THIS IS MY LUGER HOWEVER NOT AS COLLECTABLE AS THE ABOVE LINK.

IIRC it was three, or five made by DWM to enter into the sidearm trials that ended up giving us the M-1911. The Lugers hardly got past the first set of tests, as they were to vulnerable to dirt/dust/mud, but the one that was entered into the 1000 round continuous fire test, failed very early on.

Not that this has anything to do with what I said yesterday, but, at least five DHS MRAPs went slowly down my street today. Didn't fully see the first one, as I had been sitting down, but when I saw the top of it, and the flashing lights, et al, I stood up, and four more went past in convoy.
All painted black, all had the word POLICE painted in white on the wall of the troop compartment, and the logo of DHS on the door. The first one I actually saw, completely, had a .50BMG on a ring mount, the second had a MK-19, and the last two had M-240 GPMGs. Now what on God's green earth are they doing "patrolling" a peaceful small rural community? It isn't like we have any riotous feral critters, or out of control tea party thugs around here! ...or could it just be getting the "natives" used to the sight of Imperial power? |

Damn! That sighting and your story about the Luger being seized sends chills up my spine. WTF could be afoot up there?

HS 176 That's the only reason I won't carry my '29 Swiss edc.
I've had that Interarms Luger since '74,in forty yrs. it's only failure I attribute to some South African 115 grn. ammo. My '17 Artillery model failed repeatedly till I discovered that the trigger linkage had been improperly assembled, she is sweet. That said I couldn't recommend others carry a Luger, most people wouldn't take the time or interest in learning their weapon, a major reason that professionals (HA) like the Glock, they run perfectly in ignorance and complacency witness the Glock Leg phenom, I've never heard of Luger Leg have you? I would bet my life on the Luger. robert

All I can say is take a Luger & a 1911 dunk em both in a bucket of mud & see which one will empty its mag.............The 1911 will !............That is why the US Army chose the .45 cal. 1911 over the .45 Luger, the 1911 is (simply) a better design..........
