A new 1911
Picked up a Rock Island M1911-A1 FS today. Heard they were pretty decent for the money and so far it feels nice and tight. I'm new to 1911s so wondering if anyone has any mag recommendations? I've been reading the ACT mags that come with these are prone to feed lip cracks. Also came with some black rubber grips.

I don't know much about 1911's, but it does look nice.

Sweet! Shoot the heck out of it with the factory mags until you see problems. Usually "they" are full of crap.
Mags I've had good luck with: military surplus, Triple K, Meg Gar, and 8 round Chip McCormick shooting star, which are my current carry mags.

I use the Wilson combat mags, and McCormack’s. 1911’s are great guns, it’s usually my daily carry.

Super nice c0dy33
I have been eying them for a bit now probably grab one if the price is right. I buy Chip McCormic's and never had a problem. They seem to be solid made keep yer eye out for sales on them. Colt mags are good also but lot of fakes out their. Buy from a reputable dealer and you should be fine. Let us know how she shoots. My 1911s I had to run rounds though them clean em lube em and you should be good to go.

I have a .45 RIA I bought back around 2002. I've put 2,000+ rounds through it with zero issues and it's accurate, too, more accurate I would say than the series 70 Colt I had years ago. They're hard to beat for the $$.

Black rubber grips:
Thanks everyone, for the mag recommendations. Going to get some cheap ball ammo and run 100-200 rounds through it soon as well as a few Hydra-Shok JHPs since that's what I'll be carrying with. |

I like those black grips a lot, I have some rubber Hogue on mine that are similar.
I've always found the factory mag to be fine, too bad RIA only includes one per pistol or at least they used to. As others have said Colt GI mags will work fine as well, I have a bunch of those I picked up when they were cheap. |

1911s aren't as picky as some handguns. I've used military surplus, Wilson Combat, Meg Gar, and McCormick, and several others without a problem if they aren't damaged.
I'm sure the Chinese have figured out how to make one that jams or double feeds. But most 1911 magazines are satisfactory if they are in good shape.

My rock is in 9mm. Straight 1911 with no bells or whistles. Shoots better than I can and it will use any ammo I put in it. Mostly my own reloads. Mine's a really good pistol, probably as good as either of the series 70 1911's I've owned. Keep it stock and shoot it.
