I purchased a Rock Island M1911A1 pistol
.....For my stash, off Gunbroker, for 398.00 shipped, last Friday...it came, priority mail today. I was with family Sunday and was telling the guys about the 1911A1 for $398.00 shipped and had to order five more of them today. I have the one I ordered Friday in my hand right now. Field stripped it and examined the fit and finish. The slide and frame are CNC machined forgings. The rest of the parts are Mil-Spec. The grips are a smooth hardwood. I have several sets of GI brown plastic and a couple sets of double diamond Walnut grips. I will be putting a pair of double diamond grips on mine I think. It is for stash, as I already have several carry guns.
Looks like a hell of hand full of 1911 for a great price. My Nephew, the sheriff, already nailed one of the new Colts like the USMC is buying...he says they have the mount for a light, made right onto them. I KNOW the "boys," will be wanting reproduction GI holsters, pistol belts and mag pouches for their GI' 45's....Hmmm... Xmas presents. Vets are all real easy to buy for. I will post some pics of the RIA, 1911, ASAP.

Looks great! It may need some trigger stoning, but for the price that's great!

I do not much care for the magazine furnished with the pistol.
I poked around in some boxes and found some 1951 & 1952 vintage, Colt MFG magazines still new in the FSN bags and marked, COLT. I like the way they fit. I put the checkered, double diamond, walnut grips on...I like them. I also found some mags marked "MFR," for the 1911's. I thought I needed to order in some...not now. Got plenty it seems like. Amazing what you find when you really start poking around...... The slide release seems a bit tight...I will touch it up when I get a chance. The frame to slide fit seems real nice and the trigger pull isn't bad. All in all a real value for the money. In todays dollars $398.00 for a steel pistol...I can live with THAT. |

The finish does look a bit "rougher" than Colt, but as long as it takes the same parts and goes bang and like you say, all steel, it's a hell of a bargain for the price. I just don't need another tool right this minute...

As long as it will reliably place 230gr bullets into the brainpans of zombies, space aliens, communists and islamik jihadi...I am good.

My BIL had a RIA 1911 he thought highly of, apparently some thief liked it more. |

My 1911A1 Norinco took a walk in Nov of 2010.I replaced it with a SS Taurus with the series 80 BS.I like the series 70 models but was in a hurry to get a replacement.

Today I purchased it for $400.00....in two years....I will sell for $100,000. Or trade it for food for a year....or an eighteen year old moslom or mexican female slave to tend to my cock needs.

I have one of those. A little heavier than some but that little bit of extra weight sure helps reduce recoil on the standard 230 gr. round point ball rounds. I really like mine.

By all reports, the Rock Islands are good solid pieces.
Top of my list if/when I buy another 1911 (and of course ... I will, even though my usage has changed!) Good buy! Regards, ... |

Got mine about 7 years ago.
Never a problem with any ammo from 185 grain semi-wadcutters to 230 ball. The only thing I've ever done to it was smooth the trigger a bit, which wasn't bad from the factory.
