Welcome to the site where the owners and members have had it with playing "nice" and being "inclusive" and "tolerant" of points of view that are destroying the fabric of what made this country great. The members here are sick and tired of politicians of all parties lying, deceiving, stealing, and pretending they are doing it all for the good of the country while selling out to special interests who have the set goal of destroying this country. We have had enough of career politicians who use their office only for personal gain, and who refuse to listen to the people who put them in office. The membership is no longer part of the silent majority who play nice and get along while getting screwed by anyone with a loud voice and an agenda. We will no longer allow anyone to piss down our back and tell us it's raining. And we like guns too.

Default I changed out my EDC ammo....

I've carried a full size Springfield Armory 1911-A1 for over 7 years now and was always of the belief that "what's good enough for our military for 75 years, is good enough for me".

I used to carry the standard .45 ACP FMJ 'ball ammo' (Winchester White Box, 230 gr FMJ).

I switched to Hornady Critical Defense 185 gr FTX ammo. I love this ammo!

FMJ and anything larger than .45 calibers is illegal for CC in OK.

No .50 Desert Eagles.

I loaded up some Hornady 185 gr. XTP's to do what my Lyman book says is around 1,000 fps.

I'd love to see what they do in ballistic gel, sometime. Put them together for coyotes, because coyotes always seem to outrun my .45 ACP ball.

It's gotten too civilized around here to pop coyotes when you see them, though.

Bought some of that recently - doubt that it will chamber in the Kimber 3" but
we'll see how it works in the 4" Ruger (still unfired).

Rick, you can load a full mag and manually work the slide to see if they chamber & eject properly (KEEP YOUR BOOGER HOOK OFF THE BANG SWITCH!). I did that and each round loaded & ejected like they're supposed to. Then shot 4 boxes of them, with ZERO malfs before I deemed them 'dependable' in my pistol (I have over 2K rounds of WWB through it with ZERO malfs). These rounds are very close to the same dimensions as 230 gr. WWB (nose is kinda 'rounded' also), so they fed like it was a starving dog........just gobbled 'em up one at a time.

I can get these rounds for about $22.50 (+ sales tax), for a box of 20 rounds at the local 'fleet & farm type store. WalMart doesn't carry them and every other 'gun store' aka 'sporting goods store' has them priced higher.

Yes, it cost me a few $$$ to make sure my pistol 'ate them properly' but, IMO, it was worth it.

That would be interesting to see. Hornady's site says these 'fly' at 936 fps. Yours should be about 65 fps faster. Be interesting to see if that makes a difference also.

I did that with the 185gr. Hornady XTPs, Hunter - which is why I doubt
your stuff will cycle in the Kimber (3" barrel). But should be okay in the
Ruger (4" barrel). Yup, I've done that exercise with the XTPs too.

No negligent discharges. Phew!!

A minute or two later: $22.50 + tax is a hell of a lot better thaan I saw
them priced on-line. Good deal!

I got a few 100x boxes of the Hornady 185grn XTP bullets when Hornady was running a promo on purchasing their dies... Loaded them up, .45acp+P spec, Starline virgin +P brass. (+/- 1150 fps...)

I actually prefer the Nosler 185 grn HPs, thank you. Tighter groups, for me...

Yes, I know... "conventional wisdom" is to use "store bought" ammo for defense... but... if I survive the moment? Litigation is likely my last concern.

Yes, the Hornady XTPs open up nicely, but... I still prefer the Nosler HPs. To each their own.

And... when rolling your own? The difference in price between projectiles is rather negligible, you know?
