Anyone Speck fish?
Crappie, Speck, "Speckled Perch" season, is just getting rolling down here.
They run 2 too 3 pounds here. Not much of a fight. But some darn good eatin fish. 25 limit a day.. Can be caught on minnows and small twister tails. Crappie, slaw, hush puppies. A southern feast. I will get pictures up, when the girlfriend brings my camera back.

I use to wade fish Galveston. Specks, flounder & red's where my main targets. Last time I went a shark stole my stringer off my belt. That made the wife nervous & my fishing buddy moved off.

Yeah, I do. I prefer bluegill (a little firmer texture meat) but crappie is quite tasty as well.

I hand feed my "bream" blue gills name I guess up north.
Smart little buggers. They know my walk across the dock when I go out too feed them. They come out from the boat slip and line up in Military formation. Most fun is tossing them cooked spaghetti. Spaghetti going every direction under water as the grab for it. Quite a light show. I dont catch them, yes darn good eating. All the neighborhood kids use the dock and have a blast catching them on hot dogs. Still hate the kid who caught the 5 pound bass on a hot dog off the dock. 2 grand in fishing equipment and lures and the rug rat caught it on a hot dog. |

I used to fish regular for REDS we'd also get a few specks if we happened on a school feeding on shrimp.
Also a few flounder and sand trout. |

Wait..... it seems like some of us might be talking about two different fish.
I was talking about crappie (the most venerable of the panfish, in my opinion). It appeared that maybe a few of the others were talking about a salt-water fish, perhaps a speckled trout (those ugly looking bastards with the wicked looking teeth) ?? |

What Peeweester is sayin and what Pogo is sayin Gus.
Like a big bluegill. Slightly flatter but bigger. Tastes as good as filet of sole. Speckled perch, Crappie, Specks. However you pronounce it, is big time during the winter here. They like cold water. Stay deep during the summer. People come from all over the Country too fish them here, when they start moving too spawn. They are in more northern states but they get bigger here. As said, if you like fish, yall would get hooked on eatin these real quick. Edit: Picture did not work. Sorry bout that. Maybe it did? Dang blasted picture talkin box. You have too hit o.k.
