I could get some at a feed store, but they pretty much only have leghorns and Rhode Island reds, which tend to be pretty goofy as they've been overbred over the years. Plus, I've never liked leghorns. Still remember getting attacked by a rooster at my grandpa's house when I was a little kid.

She ordered some Buff Orpingtons, Australorps, Aracaunas, and Barred Rocks.

We've always had good luck with those birds.

I got some Ameraucanas from Tractor Supply 3 weeks ago. They had 5 or 6 different breeds when I bought mine.

I just don't go there very often, and when I do, I am either too early to get anything, or too late.

When I was in there last, they only had a mixed tank, some leghorns, and ducks. Last mixed group I purchased had too many roosters.

When they get old and stringy and quit laying. Then they get butchered and canned. Makes them nice and tender. At least the ones who don't get killed by chicken hawks, or coyotes.

I have to the store and get chicken once their here and start hanging out I call them pets.
Gators snatch my neighbors chickens across the canal here once in awhile. You think the coons and birds are bad you should see what a big gator does to the cage.

Rhode Island Reds lay brown eggs. So do all the ones I ordered, except the Aracaunas - they lay a blue-green egg. Some folks call them, "Easter Egg" chickens.

Interesting yeah geez I don't know a dang thing about them. My neighbor pretty Peruvian girl across the canal has chicken. She brings me eggs. Her husband pops the gators trying to eat his chickens and brings me gator meat.
I didn't see nuttin. Yup if things go south we have enough between the forest and the river to survive with all the critters and my local Red Neck buds. I cook they catch.

I butchered my flock of 12 anticipating the sale of our house and retirement. Then BOOM! China virus hits. Everything is on hold. Now for the first time in decades we're buying eggs. Oh well... This too shall pass.

Once we get settled at the new place, we'll build a coop and start a new flock.
