Sears aims to close up to 150 stores in bankruptcy, sources say
Source: Reuters Sears is planning to close up to 150 of its department and discount stores and keep at least 300 open as part of a plan to restructure under U.S. bankruptcy protection, people familiar with the matter said Friday. The plans, which remained in flux Friday afternoon, would leave the fate of Sears' remaining roughly 250 stores uncertain, the sources said. The future of the stores could hinge on Sears' negotiations with landlords over their leases.

Sears has been dying a slow death for many years.
If they had leveraged their catalog sales experience into the internet, there would not be an Amazon today.

They should have stayed with the catalog long time ago and go online, they got taken over my KMart which is negro owned. Bad decision. Down here they opened a fancy store in every new shopping mall just to watch it go down the drain years later while other stores survived. Something is wrong with their business model. Remember when they used to sell guns and ammo? And their tools were the best in the market? They used to sell complete house kits by mail too. Big international company wiped out by technology and poor management.

Put 'Sears & Roebuck' on line and let Amazon take over its operation...moneymaker there!

I wonder how many affirmative action executives it took to bring this about.

They closed the huge Sear's store at the Mall in Mankato a few years ago.
There's still a small Sear's "Neighborhood Store" here in New Ulm where I can go and buy anything that Sear's sells. The store may have to order it, but I can get whatever I want from them, through this store. I can pick it up there or, they will deliver it straight to the house. I hope the store here stays open. |

I grew up with Sears & JC Penney stores in the 50's, 60's, and 70's.
Both are circling the bowl today due to mismanagement & foreign competition. Just another piece of America disappearing. RIP |

When I was a kid we would go into Sears to look at our feet though their fluoroscope because it was cool to see the bones in our toes and all...then someone ruined it all by finding that it could cause cancer...those were the days my friend, we thought they would never end...and etc.

Still miss the local mom and pop stores I grew up with.
Riding my bicycle to them. Getting a soda and crackers. |
