Uncle Porter's US Calvary Pic
Porter served in the US Army's 7th US Cavalry during the WW1period.
Finally found an image of him from back when:

When I was a kid...uncle Pirter was up in them years.
I asked him lots of questions about them us calvary days... Of course I was watching all the cavalry movies on tv...John Ford knwe how. Uncle P...never wore "dirtyshirt blue"....never had a saber....and carried a 1911 pistol and a '03 Springfield rifle in a scabbard. Yep....hardtack, beans and salt pork...were still field rations. I asked how often him and his fellow troopers had to fight off wild indians.... He laughed and told me that many of his fellow troopers were Indians. Ge also told me that his duties consisted of running the niqqers and wetbacks off the reservations....where they were trying to squat and get a free ride. |

Porter tried to enlist when WWII started. The army told him horse cavalry was on the way out and were replaced by trucks and tanks. Porter wanted back in the saddle. He made it sound like the army pissed him off.he stayed home for WWII.
