Veterans: If you have a photo of you in basic training
If you have a basic training photo, post it in this thread. We will bring this thread up every Veteran's Day.
I'll move them to the photo area tomorrow. And return it to General Discussion area next year on Veteran's Day. Here is mine.

Picture of picture of two mean lean fighting machines. Ft. Dix N.J. Mar. 68.
Put us in Sarge we will kick that Charlie Cong's ass. Our Top was the best a man from S. America who I think was some kind of Indian? He "Calm down girls you'll get yer asses kicked soon enough." He looked like he could eat nails and spit bullets. Before lights out at Dix he showed us slides and gave us tips on staying alive. Damn he was the best I liked the guy.

If I recall, we hadn't even been in for 2 weeks when they nailed us on these portraits. Seems like every time I turned around, someone was picking my pocket - this time it was the photographer. We were the first training company on Harmony Church to get the new salad suits. The Sand Hill guys already had them, and were getting robbed by the Rangers of them when they went out alone. Apparently, more than one recruit came back to their company area in nothing but their drawers.

Funny thing about this pic: the uniform is completely out of regulation, its just for photo purposes. The jacket goes down to just below my chest and stops. It opens in the back and closes with velcro, the buttons on front are never undone. And the cover has a giant "7" in black marker on top to note the size. Its all an illusion man!

Nobody wanted to inspect our old WW2 barracks buildings, so that meant we got more training time and less buffer time. We did have windows, though - and they opened up! I don't remember if there were any coolers, as I was there from Feb to April or May, and got out of there before it got real hot. |
