Yep, Erik's method is pretty much the way I've always done it...only just used the bronze brush on pistol cleaning rod. And as it was rare that I didn't clean my pistols after every use, I could make the cylinders sparkle with very little extra effort.
Again, no one disputes "fire ring" build-up
can and even does cause problems for the unwary. But with a good cleaning regimen, it's really been a non-issue from my side of the bleachers.
22 bullets use a spray on "lube" of hot beeswax. Works fine as bullet lube for the 22 clan but the wax is bad about creating a gunky build-up. If this is allowed to go on time after time, it gets cooked and pounded onto the chamber and can be a real pain to remove.
Clean, baby, clean.
