I completly do not understand how magnetic north and south or gravitational pull could effect satellites?
Satellites are launched and placed to be outside earths gravitational range otherwise they would just get sucked back down to earth. Also depending on their purpose their timed to rotate with the earth in a fixed position 'weather' to cover a specific A.O.
Others are launched to rotate 'spy' and cover a particular path around the earth. I have a reunion coming up at M.I.T. and I will bring the subject up.
