1903 Winchester...
So I went to the Big Town gun-show today. During the first hour, I wound up with an oooold winchester 1903, chambered in .22 Automatic. I paid $100 for it, so you can probably guess what it looked like. The wood was terrible, the steel looked rough. But what the hell, who can't use another $100 .22 ??
Then I learned exactly what the hell I did wrong. Apparently, the .22 Automatic is NOT the same as .22LR. Someone pointed this out to me. Then another person, and another, and another. I started looking for the elusive ammo, finding a few boxes. Most of which averaged $20.... for a box of 50. RIMFIRE AMMO !!! So this meskin offered me $150, and I sold it for $160. Some of you old-winchester guys are probably throwing shit at me right now, but this was one terrible looking rifle. Some иigger put some metal inlays (home-made, of course) in the stock. It was just a shooter.

I owned one of those when I was about 15 yo, I loved that rifle, .22LR ammo was $0.45 a box of 50 while the .22 Winchester Automatic was $1.00 a box, and the Winchester model 1903 was the only rifle chambered for this round. The Win. model 1903 was last manufactured in 1932. BTW I lost my rifle in a house fire.

The one in question was stamped as being made in 1917. 90 years old ! The more I think about it, the more I'm glad the meskin has it. It would have been something I shot a few times, put away and never shoot again. Since it was in such terrible shape, I have little regret about getting rid of it.

I wouldn't buy something like that for a shooter anyway. That's one to collect. If you had kept it and put it away until you are my age, you would probably get a better return on your investment than if you had put it in some of the best stock on the market today.

You made a little money on it, good job. If you ever get yourself in that situation again Old West Scrounger still has that ammo specialy produced at $12.95 a box.

I'm not sure, he said he had one when he was a boy. He had to have been in his late 60's at least. I doubt he ever shoots it, but who knows ?

Ya didn't miss a thing Charlie. It was a lame duck. The ol' man and I both came back empty handed. I took my $60 and bought a shit-load of reloading supplies. I wound up with over 1,000 9mm hollow points, 500 .45 hollow points, 1k large pistol primers, and a shell holder. 90 pounds later, I had done my damage.
