O.K. First round loaded went bang..
Have not re-loaded for many years..
Read books. Asked questions, read all post here and on other forums. Watched 20 hours of You Tube on re-loading. .45 acp.. Still not sure I did everything correct.. So.. Have a few .45s, but decided to go with the Glock, for the test run.. Lot of great videos on them blowing up, so if it did, I could blame it on the weapon. Crossed the road in the swamp... Got behind a tree, weapon on the other side.. Sweating.. Squeezed the trigger, bang.. If my hand blew off, I have another one. Now I a hooked.. Re-load, it is fun..

There you go!
I wish I could reload as fast as I shoot them up. Got a big bin full of .45 ACP brass that needs loaded.

Yes...
Quite interesting this re-loading...
Was kind of nervous at first.. Overly critical, with myself, dealing in thousandths. Took forever to set up the dies.. Finally got them where I want them. Crimp was a bit tight, so I went with minimum load for the powder.. I could just imagine back in the old cowboy days, with no scales or measuring instruments.. Years back, the few rounds I loaded. Very interesting on the accuracy that can be obtained. Done properly.. Rate this Lee press 5 stars.. Really like it.. Simple efficient, not the fasted in the world, but all I need. Part is missing for the powder drop. Neither Mr. Lee's son, called and talked to him, nor Cabellas can figure out my problem.. When Pogo gets here, I will turn it over to him. I am cooking dinner, fix it. No fix, no dinner. Called everyone. No powder anywhere in the local fun shops.. 10 Bears was correct.. Hell that 20+ year old powder worked just fine.. Not that I would ever doubt Mr. Bears.. But.. I really did hide behind the tree and squeeze the trigger.. Don't care if I lost my hand.. Did not want to loose me eyes... After the elections, things will be stocked again. Re-loading is fun, yup I am hooked.. |

Pre-measured scoop's
Back in the cowboy days they used a scoop cut to the load wanted. Lee still makes scoop's. But back then there were only FFFG (hand guns) FFG (heavy single shot rifles) and FG (Cannon). There was also FFFFG But it was used for priming flintlocks. Black powder does not develop the pressure of today's powder.

Those LEE powder scoops are surprisingly accurate, I used to use a scoop to get close to my working load, then use a powder trickler and a scale to get the final weight, noticed right off that those scoops were very consistent IF tou followed LEE's directions.
I've used the scoops alone with a hand press if I was only loading a dozen or two for some special purpose. I knew dozen's of 'old timers' who had a cutoff cartridge case with a wire handle brased on, for their only powder measure. I remember an uncle telling me that he'd cut the case 'just right' and he leveled it off for his deer cartidges with his knife blade if he was loading for deer, and if he was going after bear, he left it mounded up 'just a smidgeon'. Like lot of his generation, he preferred the Win. 32 Special, because it 'shot good' with smokeless, but was way better than a 30-30 if he ran out of smokeless and had to use Black powder. Damn Bro, I don't want your autograph, just want to know what the hell I am missing.. "You vill listen. Do you hear me. We almost won WWII." I friggen hung up.. |
