tannerite
Has anyone here sucessfully set off tannerite with a
.22 WMR ? Specs say you need a round with minimum 2100fps velicity. Most .22 mag rds have velocities from 2100-2300fps

What is the velocity at a safe shooting distance? At 100 yards the velocity drops off quite a bit. I have shot tannerite with a .17HMR at around 80 yards and it didn't set it off. They do make explosive targets that can be set off with a .22 LR. Wonder if using one of those to set off a larger binary target would work.

We used the smaller Tannerite targets and a .22LR, to 'blow a hole' in the side of chest freezers & refrigerators.... The 'hole' ended up being about 2" in diameter. Once that hole was blown in the side, we adjusted a rack or two, and placed a 2 lb. charge of Tannerite on the rack. The person that actually hit the smaller .22LR activated Tannerite target, had first crack at putting a round through the hole, into the 2 lb. charge, and blowing the appliance to smithereens........ Lawn mowers were the 'trickiest to blow up'. 4-6 guys would take a turn and they'd either hit the mower, or the round would impact the dirt under the mower. Charge was placed directly under the crankshaft (blade removed). Oh, and we used about a 1/2 lb. charge to blow those up. The crowd I shoot with, likes to get 'carried away' a little bit, so we hang back 300+ yards or so when we do stuff like this. |

Gonna look around some more for the stuff that can be set off with a .22lr.
Seems most places are sold out right now. Not gonna waste a 1/2 lbs of the good stuff and not have it go off |

Bought some of the Goliath .22 binary targets today, and now
a new question races through my mind. Can I place a .22 binary target on the inside of a tannerite target, and make the tannerite go off? An experiment may begin order. |

If the shock wave from the Goliath .22 binary target is 2000 fps or better it should do it.
