In my opinion those old S&W revolvers are among the best things to shoot.

Probably my SIG 226 in 9MM. Low recoil, very accurate, 15 round capacity. My go-to gat for repelling borders & ner-do-wells.

S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman with a 6 inch barrel, I inherited this from my dad when his Parkinson's and Alzheimer's got to be to much for him.
I remember him crying when he gave it to me and promised to pass on to the grandson when my time came. He bought this in 1960 when I was 2 years old and it's had thousands of rounds put through it, the action is amazing and smooth as glass. You gotta love the workmanship in these older revolvers. |

I feel the same way about my Beretta 92FS. Recoil almost non-existent, fits my hand like a glove, and the slide cycles like butter.

1976 S&W model 66. Trigger sicked up by Keith Warner a master with S&Ws. A joy to shoot.

Frank Green came to my range to fire his first qualifying run to make the top 40 for the finals, which he won in 1976. It was the first time I had met Frank but his reputation preceded him. Winner of many medals in national and international shooting, most of them gold, he was the 1968 U.S. Olympic pistol coach.
I wanted him to know I knew about pistols so I picked a target at 300 yards, a yucca plant about 2x3 feet. Jim Clark, 1958 National champion at Camp Perry had already told him about me. I took a Clark long slide out of my pickup and fired a magazine of 7 rounds using both hands standing. I hit it with every shot. I then gave him the pistol with a full mag. Frank then said, "You took two-thirds of the hill?" I said, "Yes." He then put the modified 1911 .45 in his right hand assuming a bullseye, military stance and emptied 4 rounds into the yucca, then he put the pistol in his left hand and emptied the remaining rounds into the yucca. He then gave me the pistol with, "Jimmy got a trigger on this one." Later Sam Yarosh, Secret Service's best shooter and I shot at that same 300 yard target, but this time double action with his 6 inch barrel S&W full-go .44 mag. We took turns shooting six shots each hitting the target every time. Mel Makin was another multiple gold medal winner shooting for the Army. He shot a 1911 .45. Royce Weddle was another pistol smith, firearms training officer shooting double action. He won my match in 1977 shooting double action. Reeves Jungkind, Texas Rangers firearm training officer shot a Colt .357 with a superb trigger. The beauty of the 1911 is that it's already cocked before each shot and no change in grip is needed. I have shot and owned many makes of handguns, including models 27, 28 and 29 S&Ws. I now shoot only Colt's 1911s and .44 mag S&W. Only sweet triggered handguns are interesting. Doc |

Practically anything in my .45s. As a young pup I could hit the south end of a knat running at X m.p.h. Now getting old and loosing my eyesight and coordination I just use my .45s and put lead down range.
Big wads of lead heading out and God willing I hit my target and not some poor soul. .
